Anno 1602 aka 1602 A.D. on a Late 2011 MacBook Pro? You bet! 💻✨🏴‍☠️⚓️

Today I achieved something nice: Anno 1602, the 1998 classic, is running on my 13-year-old Late 2011

MacBook Pro!

Admittedly, it took some tinkering, but with the help of Crossover and some tweaks, I was able to get the game running.

The Challenge:

* The Late 2011 MacBook Pro has an Intel HD 3000 graphics card, which isn’t officially supported for Anno 1602.

* Crossover is software that allows you to run Windows applications on Macs, but compatibility issues can arise.

The Solution:

* I installed an older version of Anno 1602 (v1.04).

* In Crossover, I set the compatibility to Windows XP and adjusted some graphics settings.

* With some patience and tinkering, I was finally able to get the game going!

The Result:

Anno 1602 runs smoothly and looks surprisingly good on the Late 2011 MacBook Pro. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to play this nostalgic game on such an old machine.

The Takeaway:

With a little effort, it’s possible to play even old games on modern Macs.  This experience showed me that you shouldn’t write off old hardware just yet. ♻️
